Horse Cave, Kentucky

Madeline Workman Dearnell, age 95, of Horse Cave, Kentucky passed away on Sunday, January 29, 2023, at her home, after a short illness.  She was born in Logan County, West Virginia on January 25, 1928, a daughter of the late Pearl Dempsey and Robert Workman.  She grew up in a coal mining and farming community with her four brothers, and three sisters.

She made her profession of faith early in life and was a longtime member of the Life Gate Church of God.  Madeline was the epitome of the woman in Proverbs 31, whose children “rise up and call her blessed”.  She was a wonderful cook, an avid reader, and a loving gardener.

She is survived by her daughters, Rebekah Sode and husband Carl of Greensburg, Kentucky, and Renee Sprankle and husband Dale of Horse Cave, Kentucky as well as her stepchildren, Patricia Kirk of Newark, Ohio, and Jim Dearnell of Reynoldsburg, Ohio.  Grandchildren: Luke Sode, Sheyenne Palmore, Sierra Swan, Susie Brewer, Carol Spaulding, June Hannah, Janina Spencer, and Tony Stoud; Fourteen great-grandchildren, nineteen great-great grandchildren, as well as a host of nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ireland James Dearnell, stepdaughter, Linda Stoud, two step sons-in-law, Harmon Stoud, Carl Kirk, two grandchildren, Diana Staugh and Carlos Kirk, and one great-grandchild Cassie Nicole Brewer.
