Listen to Obituary

Carolyn Beall Sturgeon, age 72 of Cave City, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, August 2, 2025 surrounded by family.

Carolyn was born on December 5, 1952 in Glasgow, Ky., to the late Ninion “Dek” and Marie (Strange) Beall.

In addition to her parents, Carolyn was preceded in death by her infant son, Jason Andre Sturgeon, and her sister, Evangeline “Vangie” Beall.

Carolyn is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Melvin Sturgeon of Cave City; two daughters, Angel Sturgeon of Cave City and Julie (Kevin) Craine of Cave City; and her sister, Marilyn Thompson of Horse Cave. Carolyn also leaves behind several cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, in-laws, and friends.

Carolyn married Melvin on June 10, 1969 and graduated from Hart County High School in 1970.

A faithful member of Highland United Methodist Church, Carolyn lived a life defined by kindness, devotion, and compassion to others.

Carolyn worked for many years as a waitress in several local establishments, including Mammoth Cave Restaurant in her early years, Park View Motel, Mammoth Cave Hotel, the Wigwams in Cave City, and the Farmhouse Restaurant. Later, she spent six years working at Caverna Elementary School during Angel’s time there.

More than anything, Carolyn was a devoted wife, mother, and friend. She worked side by side with Melvin on the family farm for several years, and her heart and home were always open to others. Known affectionately as a mother, aunt, and nanny to many, Carolyn touched countless lives with her generosity, warmth, and love. She had a remarkable way of making everyone feel like family.
